Weekly Competitor Price and Promo Log
A one-row-per-competitor-per-product log for recording list price, promotion mechanics, effective price, and the planned response each week.
Reviewed for 2026, updated September 8, 2026.
A price check tells you a competitor is cheaper today. A log tells you whether that is new, whether it repeats, and what you decided last time. This worksheet is the simplest structure we know that captures both. Each row pairs one of your tracked products with one competitor, records what they are charging and what promotion is attached, and forces you to separate the list price from the price a customer actually pays after the promotion is applied. The last column is where the decision goes, even when the decision is to hold.
Fill it in at the same time each week, using the same capture rules for every competitor and for your own listing. The example rows show the kinds of entries that belong in each column; replace them with your own products and figures. For the effective price column, the Promo-Adjusted Effective Price Calculator at /tools/promo-adjusted-effective-price/ takes a percent discount off list, so a multi-buy or free-shipping offer must first be converted into an equivalent percent discount before you enter it, and the Price Position Index Calculator at /tools/price-position-index/ turns the finished row into a gap you can compare across weeks. Our article on reading a competitor's promo calendar at /blog/read-competitor-promo-calendar/ explains what to do with the calendar once a few months of rows have built up.
